Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,1)

Getting this after attempting to install Knoppix onto harddrive. What the hell do I do?

dd = Could not find kernel image.

Seems to say that for every command except a Knoppix booting one.

Is there another emergency LiveCD kind of program that I can rewrite the HD with?
