My Desired Setup

I want to know if this is at all possible...

I'm on Windows XP. I have found myself only using 1 or 2 desktop icons. Those being My Computer and Mozilla Firefox. Can I either..

1) somehow remove all desktop icons except for those two?

or

2) remove all icons, but make keyboard hotkey shortcuts to open Mozilla and My Computer?

The only fixes I can find are ones that make all icons invisible.  And I have no idea to go about making hotkeys on a keyboard, if one can even do it.

Thanks.

2 is possible, I'm assuming you mean push a certain alt+ctrl+whist+1/b combination? Right click on the shortcut goto properties and it should say there keyboard shortcut, assign the desired combo (ctrl+shift+alt+whatever alphabet). For my Computer I don't think that's possible unless ur making a shortcut of it

1) you can remove any desktop icon you want just by selecting it and hitting delete, with the exception of Recycle Bin which apparantly needs registry tweaking.

2) you can make keyboard shortcuts by right-clicking a shortcut icon, going to properties, and playing with the shortcut key field.  if you have a windows keyboard, WIN-E is already a keyboard shortcut to open Explorer.

Opera sucks sure there's an ebuild for opera but it just get dropped to /opt, it's statically linked, and it's CLOSED SOURCE, which means that it is a BINARY package.

Try TweakUI, one of Microsoft's Windows XP Power Toys.

I have no idea why noone else noticed, but you can right click somewhere on the desktop, hit "Properties", then "customize the desktop" then uncheck any icons you do not want to see.

Don't change these.
