building a computer

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-15 8:37

I'm more or less new to computers and own a dell atm. =(
Here is the parts list that I made earlier:
2x 17inch monitors, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824009036
case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811156177
extra fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835129243
motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131540
memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145587
2x sli 7800gt http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121004
cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103603
soundcard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102003

The prices add up to about 1500 with the two monitors, I have speakers, keyboard, and a mouse.

Including things like wires and such, what all do I need to consider/know about/buy along with all this. Or maybe any suggestions to replace some of these parts with similar priced products that might perform better with that set up?

Any help appreciated.

17 inch is tiny

19 inch is retarded, because it has the same resolution. 20 inch is better but more expensiev. also TWO of them are truly superior.

i dont have enough profit for those

Okay, those graphics card you link to are not 7800GT, but 7600GT. Why? Why in the hell would you buy 2 of those, and put them in SLI? For the same money you can get a single 7900GT or 7900GTX, if you score a bargain, and still get practically the same performance with only 1 card.

And try to upgrade from 2 7600s using SLI when you desire more power, oh wait - you can't because you got both your slots filled with some weak budget cards! That's like SLIing 2 6600GTs, sure it's possible, but why?

like i said i dont know much about this stuff, but it doesn't mean i dont want a good comp ^^
i heard that sli was better so i figured that would do fair, maybe i can get a 7900gt like you said and get another one later in the year when i want to upgrade or something like that

I'd save some cash and get a non-Antec case that's just as good but probably half the cost.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-17 8:41

7900GT is definately better bang for buck than 2 7600GTs, and if you ever do SLI the 7900GTs they will smear a 7600GT SLI setup on the floor.

2 ain't always better when trying to get a bargain.

SLI is a waste of money FYI

Just get a 7900, if you're going to spend that much anyways. And use the extra few you save to get your CPU up to a San Diego. Like the 3700+. And don't get too cheap a case. I usually buy Antec because they are sturdy, have good features. I have that case actually, now that I look. To install the HDD's, you are using those rubber gromit in the HDD chassis things as screw holes, just so you know (it took me a little bit of thinking to figure that one out). Make sure your power supply cables are fairly long to be able to reach the top of the case, and make sure you pull them all the way through to avoid them catching the bottom front fan. And you might want to pick up a pair of fast Silverstone 120mm fans to replace the two top ones. Not that they are bad, but they aren't very powerful. Just a suggestion. It's a really nice case though. Well worth the money.

My two 7900GT's out perform ANY single card solution on the market and cost an arseload less than most of them.

"My two 7900GT's.. cost an arseload less than most of them." - what

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-17 10:29

I paid $420AU each for my GT's. They out perform ANY single card on the market. Let's compare to the fastest single, which is still about 20% slower than my setup. Radeon X1900XTX. They go around $1200AU.

lol you fail

They do NOT cost less than most graphics cards. At $290 US for the cheapest ones on newegg, most cards cost less than the 7900GT. Quite a bit less. An X1900XTX is about $480US. So one 7900gt is cheaper than one X1900XTX, but 2 certainly are NOT. Unless you mean two X1900XTX in crossfire, which should be faster than your SLI if one is only 20% slower.

whats the advantage of sli? I want something that can out perform everything atm but also be usefull in the long run. I was under the impression that sli was "the thing to do." sure its better but is it really worth it? and will it be worth it in the future or is it dying technology?

SLI/Crossfire are the fastest solutions on the market. Bar none.

Look harder.

Don't change these.
