network cards are whack

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-13 12:25

At my house I connect my main computer to my cable modem via ethernet with no problems whatsoever. However, I have another computer that I try the exact same setup with and no matter what OS it's running or which of three PCI ethernet cards I happen to use it is unable to determine the IP address. I've tried fiddling around with dhcp but so far it hasn't worked. There also doesn't seem to be any resource conflicts from what I can tell. Any advice?

Are you trying to connect the computer that you have problem with directly to the modem? Try rebooting the modem after you connect it to your Network card, most cable modem only allows the first MAC adress of a network card it sees when it powers on to connect with it.
