Crash During XP SP2 installation

Hey 4chan,

I recently built a new computer (Athlon 4800+) with XP Professional and installed the motherboard drivers.  Shortly after that I started installing SP2, and at around 75% it hung up on "Performing Cleanup" and I was forced to reboot.  After rebooting I was brought to a screen that said the installation failed/corrupted and it was reversing the process/removing the installed portion of SP2.  After that finished, the account login screen for Windows started up, but it crashes before any accounts appear.  Even if I try booting into safe mode the same happens.

I read on Google that it was a problem with the processor or something, but there were no solutions given.  Even if I reformat and reinstall Windows I think the problem would just reoccur; does anyone have any idea how to remedy this?

After reformatting, it won't happen anymore. SP2 sucks because of problems with drivers which is why I'm still on SP1.

Should I install SP2 before installing the drivers then?

Might work but if it doesn't, then don't install SP2 at all.

Try that first, or have you updated your motherbaord with the latest on from your manufacturer website?

My friend had the same problem, he was forced to reinstall but we managed to get all his crap off the drive beforehand.  He installed windows with a disk that already had SP2 on it and it worked fine (and still working to this day).

Don't change these.
