My first blue screen in two years :(

First off, my specs.

Windows XP, P4 3ghz, gig of ram, and a Radeon 9550.

I'm not sure what caused it. All I know is that the driver that caused it had something to do with ATI.

I was doing what I mostly do on the computer, reading a forum and watching some stuff using Windows Media Classic. So this really came out of no where. I updated my drivers about three weeks ago but I haven't heard about anyone having troubles with them.

So was this just a fluke or something? I know I'm not giving much info here but I don't have much to go on in the first place. But thanks for any help.

my old computer started bluescreening randomly when before it was working fine ... it progressively got worse and i could find no software solution for it ... it was probably too much load on the power supply, i had 2hd's, 2 cd-roms, a pci graphics and 3 other pci cards running on what turned out to be a 175w power supply.  (compaq sucks balls btw)

probably no need to panic but here's some suggestions:

- the obvious: be sure you have latest ati drivers, **DIRECT-X**, windows updates, run antivirus, etc.
- anything overclocked?  try turning the mhz down a notch if so
- what's gpu temp?  do you have enough air circulation in your machine? within range? (open your machine and dust it off)
- get memtest86 and give your ram a thorough test (run it for a night, see if errors come up)
- is your power supply wattage enough to run what you have installed? (mine obviously wasn't)

well the problem lies in the fact that you have a fucking gay video card with stupid-ass drivers. get an nVidia or get the fuck out.

Don't change these.
