Power supplies suck

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-25 23:18

I have a dual opteron system sitting quietly on my workbench. Why? Because the power supply I'd ordered for it didn't have an 8-pin 12V connector.

Now I have to wait for the one I just ordered overnight shipping to get here, in 2 days. It'd be nice if the website I bought it from listed whether or not there were 8pin connectors or not, but I guarantee I won't make this sort of mistake again.

You should google for whatever you're buying for first to find out as much about it as possible. Most ATX 2,01 and upwards quality supplies have a 8 pin 12v connector, so perhaps you tried to buy a cheap one.

I bought an ATX12V for $100, but I hadn't really been keeping up with hardware changes for a while now so I guess it escaped my notice. I just ordered a $100 power supply that a website I found lists it as compatible with my motherboard, and previous customers commented that it does indeed have an 8pin (mostly to mention you can split it into two 4pin connectors).

Newegg usually has links right to manufacturer's sites. Very useful.

Don't change these.
