what the fuck? totally counter to logic

i'm currently living in a place where i cannot set up a net connection so i've been leeching a wifi connection. it used to be very reliable, but now i cannot download over any port by any means faster than 3kbps, and after about ten seconds, the transfer cuts, so anything other than websites, small images and AIM are now out of the question. however, uploading images to 4chan, files to rapidshit or sending things over AIM, my upload speed pushes 55kbps

not knowing what exactly i'm connected to, and knowing that it used to be fast both ways... what the fuck?

background: i'm posting this maybe three hours after a clean format/patch/reinstall of windows, updates, virus software and the like so it's definitely not a me problem

we can make up a lot of scenarios, but the fact is that there's no way for you to know the nature of the conntection you're stealing, and without this info you'll have a hard time troubleshooting anything.

If the real owner is using his bandwidth (like eMule and several torrents) then you will only get a tiny slice to of his speed. Also, maybe his ISP has implemented packet shaping. Try encrypted BT on >50K port numbers to see if speeds increase.
