I started getting this error in VirtualDub...

Lately, when I try to rip a WAV with VirtualDub, I get this error: "No audio decompression could be found to decompress the source audio format. (source format tag: 0055)"

Until about a week ago, I was always able to do this with no problem, and I haven’t made any changes or anything, so I’m confused about why this problem has suddenly popped up. If you know how I might be able to fix this, please let me know. Any help would appreciated.

Uh...changing my browser won't help. VirtualDub has nothing to do with that.

I need serious suggestions here, guys. I've searched around, and it seems like I'm not the only one to have had this problem. The thing is, others haven't had any luck with fixing it, so no one I asked could help.

Tried reinstalling your codecs/codec pack?

actually it has everyhting to do with it.  downloading it from a crappy browser may have screwed up the program, resulting in the problem ur having now

You're full of shit. Firefox has fucked up more download than IE ever did during the 6 or so years I used it.

No, I'm not using Firefox. I downloaded VirtualDub well over two years ago, and I never had any problem before. If it was something as simple as which browser I used to download it, wouldn't the problem have shown up ages ago?

Also, I tried uninstalling VirtualDub and downloading the latest version (using Opera instead of IE, which I was using the first time I downloaded it a few years ago), and that didn't fix it. I'm really stuck here.

Does anyone know of any other good programs (which are free and relatively uncomplicated) that do what VirtualDub does? Maybe I wouldn't have this problem with another program.

did you delete everything when you uninstalled?  the fact that the problem persisted after the reinstallation makes me think it may be something external, such as codecs (though it sounds like you've already tried that approach.  you have gotten this problem with more than one wav file, right? 

as for other programs, it depends on what you are planning to do with the wav files.  there is a fairly popular modification of virtualdub, called virtualdub mod, but i don't know at all how it is different.  might want to look into it though.

Yeah, I uninstalled everything, both my codecs and VirtualDub, and then reinstalled the latest versions of both. No luck. I also tried downloading VirtualDubMod, but it won't install correctly for one reason or another.

Anyway, I think I'll give up on this. Today I tried a program called GoldWave, and so far I actually like it more than VirtualDub.
