DVD Burner fucked?

I have a relatively new (1 year old) DVD Burner and I think it's starting to crap out on me.  Nowadays, it frequently burns bad discs that fail verification about halfway through (or sometimes, confusingly, verify perfectly but then files won't play off the discs).  I tried reinstalling Windows after a format on this drive and it failed about 20 times, in a different spot each time.  Then I tried it on an old CD-RW drive and it installed first try.  Hmmm.

I have transported the drive recently, if that means anything--I believe someone told me once that moving your comp can cause damage to your drives?  Anyhow, I would just toss it and buy a new one, except for one thing: it gives perfect burns like 1/20 times, do I don't think it's completely gone...in fact, just yesterday it burned me a perfect DVD.  Is there anything I can do here?  I really don't want to shell out some hard-earned cash for another drive, I just bought this one...

More details: It's a Memorex Dual Layer burner, it's been transported about 4 times not including trip back from the store.  I've tried two different brands of media since it started giving me problems and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Fuck, ok.  One last question--while I was looking at Newegg for a new drive in case it WAS dying, I saw some drives marked Lightscribe.  I'm guessing this prints on those blank DVD-R's that are everywhere nowadays, but how does the end product look, all of you who own these drives?  Professional DVD looks? :P Nah, I'm guessing not, but does it look pretty cool at least?  Full color, nice finish, doesn't come off with water, etc?  If so, it seems sorta worthwhile to me since it's impossible to write on those blank DVD-R's without killing your Sharpies.  They eat ink like nothing else.

Disregard this, after some checking, Lightscribed discs look like cocks.  And apparently these blank white DVD's AREN'T for printing on.  Why the fuck did they coat them with this surface then?  It's a strange matte that soaks up ink so bad, a new Sharpie will start to go dead after labeling about 5 discs.

They print okay, actually - I concur with not using a sharpie to write on them as it kills them very quickly, but your printer's not going to use more ink just because of a different surface. The colours aren't very vibrant on that surface, but all printable DVDs are like that (it's never going to compare with silkscreened pressed discs).
