Thinking of getting a laptop, need some help

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-10 20:41

Hey guys.  I'm going to start a new website, and I wanted to buy a new computer since the rig I'm using is like five or six years old.  I'd figure I'd get a laptop, since I find myself traveling alot and I'd like to lug it around to different places.
Anyways, I'm not looking for a top of the line in everything.  I'm mostly going to be using it for image editing, so I'm not looking for something with an expensive as hell video card.  I don't play games too much anymore, so it's not goign to have any games on it.  Can anyone recommend how I should go about doing this?  Maybe buy a cheap laptop from a shop and just throw some extra memory in it?  Thanks!

There are laptops that come with Linux installed on them that are a lot cheaper than anything you can get from HP or whatever (you can find a link at linux.org). ASUS also sells barebones laptops that need certain componants, but once again, it's cheaper than an OEM laptop.

If you do want an OEM laptop from a major manufacturer, you can try newegg.com, most of the hardware there is a hell of a lot cheaper than most other places.

3, I'm hoping for not too much.  Hopefully not more then $500.  Again, I'm not looking for the latest and greatest, just something I can do alot of picture and website stuff on.
