videocard upgrade

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-09 20:36

Greetings, /c/,
So with the upcoming release of vista, it seems most current videocards are gonna be obsolete, so i've put off buying a new computer until vista is released. Now i need something to tide me over.

I haven't been paying attention to video cards since the radeon 9800xt. I'm plannin on buying a 9600xt 256 mb version, but I noticed that the radeon x800 is only about 30$ more expensive. Is there much of a difference? and if there was, would the fact that I'm connecting through a 4x agp port and that i'm using a 1.7 ghz prococessor create a big enough bottleneck to negate any benefits i'd see from the x800 over the 9600xt?

Don't buy old generation video cards, you might even have to update again before vista is released if you bought one now, plus I think it'd be harder to sell once you no longer need it. Who knows, either way ain't gonna save any money that way. And no the performance loss will be negliable, I played some recent games at high graphics detail on my P4 1,5ghz with Geforce 6600GT running AGP4x. The slow processor felt at times, but it wasn't too bad.

Don't change these.
