photoshop 7 + mac

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 1:33

Dear lazyweb, why is it impossible to get photoshop 7 for mac?

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 2:00

Because you should use GIMP instead.

Similarly, >>1 should use VI instead of a real word processor, amirite?

i have it on my G4

why not just get CS2 if 7 is such a hassle?

I don't make pizza with a food processor, why should I make documents with a word processor?

Fuck if I know. All I know is someone recommened using GIMP in the place of professional-grade graphics software. In my book, that's comporable to using VI for word processing or a food processor to make pizza.

GIMP?  GIMP is like a skateboard versus a car.  Sure they both have four wheels, but one looks cool and takes you to your destination faster.

The skateboard is likely faster in a city.

Sorry, but attempting to make a point by extending a metaphor into an area irrelevant or inapplicable to the original metaphor's intent is an instant loss of argument.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 16:18

>>12
I was not trying to extend it, I just clarified it to make sure everyone knew that >>9 really meant that GIMP was the superior editor.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 16:42

If by superior you mean ugly and slow, then yes, GIMP is superior.

Okay, I do use the gimp, and I do have CS2 on muitlple computers.

However, the problem is that I have a CanoScan FS2720U. In order to use it, I do:
1) Download the latest drivers from canon:
http//consumer.usa.canon.com/...
It's the last one (FSU plugin)

2) Run the installer on a G5 with 10.4.5. This will cause 2 extensions to be installed into classic as well as a TWAIN plugin for photoshop 3-7.

3) Install the photoshop 7 trial and put the plugin in the plugin folder

4) Scan picture using the import/export menu

This whole procedure sucked balls and using a trial version of photoshop is not a very permanent solution. VueScan does not work with this scanner. Does anyone one have any suggestions for making the scanner work any other way? Or does anyone have a pre-CS version of photoshop for mac I could use?

thx.

Don't forget Gimp's real superiority: a truly horrid interface.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 18:06

Gim is free and the interface can be modified. Personally, I prefer Photoshop, tho.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 19:11

The clap is also free, but I have no use for that either.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 19:50

Touche

I stand corrected, sir.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 20:01

Paint.net is free, open source and it looks a hell of a lot better than GIMP.  Granted it's not in the same league feature-wise but the interface is heavenly compared to GIMP.

Mac compatable?

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-05 21:23

.NET, of course.

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-06 9:07

if you use .net applications you deserve to contract the clap

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-06 17:52

That's not saying much

Almost any graphics program you can find has a better user interface than GIMP.  The fun part is to try to find a program that looks worse.  Too bad you can't because said program doesn't exist.  :)

In all honesty, why don't the GIMP programmers ask the artists to design a UI that looks halfway decent?

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-07 21:43

>>25

If the GIMP had a decent UI then it would definantly put some fear into the photoshop camp. Just as powerful, and free? What's not to like... if they fix the UI

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-08 9:21

The problem is how it looks?

I thought the problem was usability. In which case they should call in some usability experts instead.

Don't change these.
