How do I learn Linux

For one who has never touched Linux, how do you learn and how long does it take to become comfortable?

I'm comfortable on many popular OS'es, tho there's still some I want to try out like Irix. Dang SGI machines are sooo expensive...

Last I checked, lack of knowledge=incompetent. Notice, all I said was that the guy needs some knowledge before going into Linux
