I'm going to choke an infant.

I started up my computer this morning with no problems. It's the first time I've done so since Friday (I was out all weekend).

For some terribly odd reason, I cannot start any media (audio/video) programs, or FFXI.

Now, I've checked the Event Viewer, and I haven't found any errors or warnings. I've done a malware & virus scan, but they cannot find anything.

What could possibly be the problem?

What are the kinds of error messages are receiving? Hard to do an analysis just by knowing that they've ceased working.

That's the thing. There are no error messages. Everything just stops.

It's infuriating.

Oh... The reason I asked was because the JRE that you have you have to install to run Azureus used to play havoc with my PlayOnline, and video players... thought it might be related, but it isn't... oh well. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Maybe some program is loading on startup and is trying to use special audio/video features that prevent other A/V programs from loading?

Maybe try uninstalling your soundcard driver and reinstalling it (Scan for hardware changes). If that doesn't fix it, do the same for your video card drivers. If /that/ doesn't fix it, maybe you have a hardware (motherboard?) problem.

Don't change these.
