Recommended virus scan software

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-26 20:04

i have just gotten a new laptop but i need some kind of virus scan software for free.

can anyone recommend any freeware virus scanners that are any good?

if you're not averse to pirating (it opens up whole new worlds of good software!) I suggest Symantec Corporate Antivirus 10. if you ARE averse to pirating, then I can't help you. I've never sunk to using freeware virus scanners. my computer is more important to me than that.

Only difference between that and one of the top AV in the world is spyware detection. Avast is also good, and AVG. Don't listen to >>2. Not everything has to be stolen, there are good free antivirus solutions, just don't go running cracks and keygens on an Admin account thinking you're immune.

yeah, 3 is right. I tried a crack and BAM! Spyware infection, trojans, viruses. It sucked. I'm just now getting my laptop back to how I liked it. However, if you must:

I lol'd losers.  I've been downloading crap for years and never once have I been infected by anything (spyware included).

A full viruis scanner supported by a global company is worth the 30-40 a year a subscription costs.  I have used Norton, McAffy, and Trend Micro Scan.  Out of them I preffer Norton because of its easy interface.

That being said I've never bought a virus scanner.  I've always reformated my PC more often than the software timed out.  (I hate HP so much...)

Is there any good, free AV software for windows 98? I installed antivir and it kept 98 from loading (so I had to uninstall it from safe mode).

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-27 17:44

I was suggested NOD32 from http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm when looking for a replacement for McAfee (seeing as McAfee was a resource hooger) and I have had no problems with it so far.

uhh start with getting a pirate xp? You do understand that no matter what AV you have on 98, your system is basically an 8 foot asshole in a prison shower.

panda sucks

nod32 ftw

kaspersky is good too

norton sucks too and i don't want a reply of CORPORATE EDITION!!!1

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-29 11:07

Have you even tried the corporate edition? Symantec's engine itself is almost always rated at or near the top in lab tests, it's only the bloated "Fisher Price My First Anti Virus" consumer versions that suck. If someone built a house out of excrement on a concrete foundation, would you declare the concrete to be the major problem?

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-29 17:16

avast! supposedly uses the Kaspersky engine. In any case, it's ICSA certified and tests 100% on virus bulletin. If you want free and legal, this is it.

Don't change these.
