I feel like such a moron...Spyware problem...

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-25 16:44

Alright, here goes. I'm usually very good with computers. But, yesterday I was downloading a torrent (won't tell what it was, though), and there was a crack that I had to run first. So anyway, I start the crack app, when all of a sudden my avast goes berserk and Microsoft AntiSpyware starts giving me all these warnings. "CRAP!!" I thought. Doing the best I could, I told it to delete everything it ran into, deleted the torrent, and rebooted the computer. I still had problems, so I searched around and updated to Windows Defender, and also installed SpyBot S&D. Then, since I still had popups, I found the thread on FireFox extensions and downloaded some that I didn't ave yet (NoScript, Adblock plus w/ Filterset.G, and others that didn't really have anything to do with security). That was all yesterday. No, I still have some popups now and then, so I'm pretty sure my job's not finished. Any advice, oh wise 4chan?

That's pretty bad. Kill everything and get Kaspersky and Spy Sweeper, Pest Patrol. I could get you the exact directions for each of the 6 instances of spyware you have, but I doubt you'd bother.

Personally I'd wipe and reinstall. If you do that I can give you advice so that you'll never be infected again, but right now and forever your machine will be compromised. You cannot know what trojans will continue to lie within your system or what registry settings direct your private information somewhere else. I would cut the network as soon as possible, though.

You can post without signing up, but just make sure you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AS IT SAYS AT THE TOP IN BOLD CAPS. They can give you step-by-step directions to clean it up, but you have to be patient and do what they say.

Stop using Internet Explorer

Thanks. First of all, I don't use IE. I always use Firefox. Second, what are these 6 instances? I am planning a wipe tomorrow, so what is your advice?

oh, I don't have any money, however, to buy antispyware software. is that a problem?

how do you get viruses if you're not stealing software????

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-26 3:27

well, um, i was. trying to, that is. but, it kinda failed. so now i don't want to risk d/ling a crack or other illegal version of any costly antivirus software.
