Duplicate images

I've been using Dup Detector to find duplicate image files (damn you 4chan). I've just found out that it doesn't detect .gif files though.
Are there any programs that work the same as Dup Detector, but can support gifs?

You're doing it wrong

1. Convert old, obnoxious, limited GIF format to PNG
2. Run DupDetector
3. PROFIT

Hmm... good idea. Is there something I could use to convert all my gifs in a folder to png?

Actually, google said something better. FotoBatch is pretty nice :) Also makes Ascii images.

xnview, irfanview,...
or just "REN *.gif *.png"

What the fuck? Why would he convert the images? And why is a duplicate detector limited by filetype? Duplicate detectors use hash checking, there can be no filetype for all it matters.

I use CloneSpy, it seems to be the gold standard and most well established.

I can understand what you're saying about hash checking. That would detect duplicate files regardless of filetype.

However, say you have a BMP and a PNG which are the same image, just in different formats. Or two JPEGs which are from the same source image but use different levels of compression. In both cases, their hashes would not match. So you'd need a program which could look at the color data and compare them to see how similar they look.

I've never used any sort of file comparison program (except diff) but I'm guessing that's what the OP wants.

This doesn't occur on 4chan. No one usually re-compresses standard images, this only leads to loss or size increase. Furthermore, you can't post BMPs on 4chan.

Though you do have a point, I didn't know it did image analysis. However, that's all moot because he's asking about GIFs, and GIFs are never re-compressed or slightly edited like JPGs are.

I'll have to agree with >>11, here. If you think that stuff is never reposted on 4chan, you're crazy.

And it's not like everyone has the same source.

I also don't know if any of those programs actually does image analysis; I'm just saying that you'd need a program that would do something like that.

GIFs are never re-compressed

no, you idiot, but sometimes they come in different dimensions. sometime you come across JPEGs than GIFs that are the same image too.

how long have you been surfing 4chan anyway? two days? or are you just blind? seriously, how can you not fucking know this?! it happens all the time.

yeah, they do. dupdetector, uniquefiler, gqview, imgseek, mediapro, picasa, etc, all do it. thank god for that.

Now we know. Thanks!

While we're on this subject, does anyone know of a program for Linux (or free UNIXes in general) that does image analysis and outputs some sort of signature that allows for easy incorporation into a shell script?

imgseek would be awesome if it didn't crash when creating its database

md5sum

yeah, md5sum, you wankers! omglol, i need specialised software for everything i do, /r/ something to open the start menu and empty the recycle bin moar efficently, preferably with a 500k gui!!!

Okay, please read what I asked again. md5sum would work to give a hash of the general file data, but I'm asking for some kind of an image analysis fingerprint, rather than just binary analysis fingerprint. It would say that a JPEG of Lenna Sjooblom is probably the same as a GIF of her. md5sum would not do this.

And before anyone goes "Bwahahahaha you want face-matching!?" I mean that one picture of her. This one: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~chuck/lennapg/lenna.shtml

Don't change these.
