Check the connection. The hard drive is getting power, but it's not talking to the motherboard for some reason. Boot to Knoppix if you need to. If Knoppix doesn't detect the hard drive, the drive or the motherboard is shot.

i checked the conenction and everything, and i dont know how to boot to knoppix, im still learning how to install OS's on macs and boot commands and such.i appreciate all the help =3 usually people get all haetfull with macs.

Last I heard, Knoppix wasn't available for PowerPC. There are other Linux LiveCDs that are compiled for PPC, though. Anyway, to boot from a CD, reboot with the CD in the drive, and press and hold the 'C' key when you hear the startup chime.
There should also be a disk repair utility semi-hidden in the installer. If that can't see the hd then you're in trouble.

So wait, you boot from the CD that came with the Mac and yet the hard drive cannot be seen at all? That's BAD news. Probably a bad hard drive.
You can open Disk Utility while you're booted from a standard OS X install CD. It's just somewhere in the menus at the top. That might not even be necessary, though, because when you go to install OS X it lets you choose your installation options, one of which is a format and reinstall.
If you can't even see the hard drive after you've thoroughly double checked all the connections, you might be fucked. See if you can pull the hard drive out and try it in a different computer, perhaps a Windows or Linux box just to get some variety.

Why pay more for expensive hardware and a decent OS when you can run Linux on hardware with similar specifications for half the price. KDE is pretty damn close to Aqua, and free!
Plus, with the advent of XGL, our user interface is gonna look pretty damn sweet, unless Apple has something REALLY cool up its sleeve for the next iteration of OS X.

To wipe HD, either
a) Insert OS install CD #1 and hold down the "c" key, when you get to the installer, either write the new OS over, or click the Installer or sth name to the right of the apple button on the top left and click... I think it's disk utility, now select your drive and click the erase tab. Self explanatory from now on.
b) Rip out HD, place HD into Microwave, ?????, Profit!
To mop up the blatent fanboyism, Linux is good for somethings, OS X is good for some things. Get over it.

I'm not saying the contrary. It's just unless you want to settle for a hacked up version installed on any old hardware, and the have to bitch about how it isn't working (duh, it wasn't designed to run on non-macs), you have to pay a pretty penny.
I miss not having things like Expose and Spotlight, but then again I don't have to put up with the dock either...

anywayz. i tried a seperate hardrive that was sitting in my room, and it didnt say the hardrive could not be found, it jsut would recognize it. so.............odds are my hardwares fucked up, isnt it?
