Let's say I have this friend, who knows this guy with an awesome laptop. Everything about the laptop is totally sweet, except the video card, which blows. Can this guy my friend knows upgrade his laptop's video card, or is he forever doomed to run inferior programs?

it's possible with some newer model laptops, but finding the parts and getting them installed is such a bitch that it's really not worth it.
