Why a Pentium D, particularly? You get better performance, lower price, lower temperature and lower power consumption out of an Athlon 64 X2.

Are you posting that link to prove my point or disprove it? While the article shows that Intel setups generally consume less power when idle, it also shows AMD setups consume less when running. And by their own admission they DIDN'T enable AMD's Cool 'n' Quiet for the tests, so the results are worthless anyway. Also, note how they've got graphs comparing the power consumption of a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 setup, for example, with an AMD 4000+. Yeah, real unbiased reporting.
