I know you probably don't want to, but humor me.

Windows XP, Windows XP Professional, or Windows 2000 Professional.

If I'm forced to use winders, I guess 2k.

XP Pro > 2k

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-15 4:18

Windows 2000, of course. I'm not a mentally challenged end user with a taste for gay (as in "colorful") interfaces and end user shit.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-15 5:01

colorful > non colorful

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-15 5:17

When I used winders I made a theme where everything was blood red. Kept it for several years. Nicer than that awful grey crap.

You fail; XP has better handling for zip files and cds (both of which you have to bolt crap on to 2000).

The interface you can change. (of course, you knew that, didn't ya? of course you did!)

You're gay

>>13
OOooooooh, better at handling Zip files and CDs!! I'm gonna switch OS for that! (and throw away 7-Zip and Nero.)

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-15 7:40

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA @ >>13.

FUck me, that's the funniest shit I've read in a while. No wonder Microsoft is no.1.

Not even sure why you would consider XP Home as an option there.  Pro = superior in all respects.

I just thought I'de add it in there just incase you guys knew something I didnt.

Advantages to XP:

- XP has ClearType, 2K doesn't. Cleartype > normal anti-aliasing, even on CRTs.

- XP is still supported by MS (updates, KB articles etc.), 2K not.

- XP has built-in WiFi support, 2K not.

If you want or need these, go with XP, otherwise 2K is less bloated if you have a slower/older comp.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-15 13:33

If you're really worried about bloat on XP, download a program called nlite.  Copy the contents of your XP cd to a folder on your computer, run nLite, choose that folder, choose which options you want to strip out, which tweaks you want to insert, etc etc etc, create ISO, burn, and you have a custom and bloatless windows XP.

lol emo

I'm gonna have to go with XP Pro

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-15 15:09

Ok well I think I am going to go with 2k. Anyway what should I use  to partition?

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-15 16:34

|- XP is still supported by MS (updates, KB articles etc.), 2K not.

WRONG. 2k still gets updates. Sure, there's not going to be another service pack or anything, but critical updates are still being issued until 2010.

There's some serious Home hatin' going on here, yo!

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-18 3:43

What about 2k3? It's got the tech of xp, but it's trimmed down as good as or even better than, win2k.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-18 5:34

>>26
2k3 is fine unless you do any games or multimedia crap with it. I tried it a long time ago, and I remember having to dick around excessively to get the sound to work (could have been my hardware though, I'm not sure), wheras 98, 2k and XP pretty much worked out of the box with what I had.

Also, there's all kinds of fun to be had if you go to play games; missing dlls which games expect to find that arent' there and shit like that.

For a server, though, it's probably better than 2k or XP (or so I'd assume).

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-18 6:46

2k3 is fantastic. for a server os. it's absolutely useless as a personal computer OS tho. I suggest XP pro for that.
and also,

FUCK XP HOME
