Weird stuck pixel problem.

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-13 5:02

I bought a refurbished Thinkpad T40 off eBay last week, and all is well... apart from a strange pixel problem that occurs randomly.

Sometimes one of the pixels will stay one colour. I ran a dead pixel checker (a program that fills the screen with red, green then blue so you can check for deads) but the pixel did not show up... but it remained the last colour of the test, after the test had finished.

Eventually, the stuckness went away... then two more appeared in random places, with the same symptoms. These disappeared after about half an hour too. I occasionally, about once every other day, get a random pixel that does this. It's not a huge problem, but it's strange.

I thought stuck pixels were semi-permanent, in that they don't move around and disappear for good at random. What's going on, /comp/?

Dead/stuck pixels are not always permanent.
You can sometimes fix it by running a video that gives seizures (alternating every color as fast as possible) or by gently massaging around the dead pixels (although it could make the matters worse.)

That's solid advice

Hmm... I just thought it strange that the pixel would only be stuck for an hour or so and would then move somewhere else on the screen. Also, it only happens every other day or so.

I noticed yesterday that the mouse cursor actually covers the pixel, so I guess it's nothing to do with the screen. Perhaps it's something to do with the OSD that these Thinkpads have.

Boot a LiveCD, play around with it for a few hours, and see if the pixels show up.

Don't change these.
