My friend has a old PIII Win 98 PC, with 2 USB ports in the back. When she plugs in her USB thumb drive, however, it won't recognize it. (In fact, plugging it in does nothing at all.) How can I fix this for her?
Thanks.

Installed the drivers for it? Unlike 2K, XP and everything else, Windows 98 needs drivers for these thumb drives.

Hmm. It should still detect it and launch the add/remove hardware wizard, before deciding it was an unknown device.

Automatic Skip Driver Agent (ASD)
Automatic Skip Driver Agent (ASD) identifies hardware devices that fail to respond; displays a dialog box indicating that it has detected a failure; prompts you with the option to bypass this action on subsequent startups.
