Laptop password cracking

Hey there...

I found a, IBM Thinkpad T40 on ebay that I would quite like to purchase, but it has a 'boot up password' which isn't known.

How easy would that be to get past?

Is it just a case of taking the CMOS battery out for a while? If so, how easy is that to get to?
