Lappy Purchase

A friend of mine, college student, is going to buy a laptop, and is telling me that he's going all out trying spend shittons of cash on a lappy that he really doesn't need. Personally, I think he's a jackass, 'cause I'm one frugal bastard. The only programs he will run are Firefox and iTunes.
What laptop configuration do you recommend for such a person?

I suggest a laptop full of flesh-eating scarab beetles.  People who flaunt money should be eaten slowly while alive.
