Huge computer issue.

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-01 12:34

Uh, I've never posted in here before.  Not sure if it's the right place to post or not.  So excuse me if I screw up.

I'm running Windows XP, the computer can't be more than 5 months old.

Everytime I restart or turn off the computer and get back on later or whenever, it blocks the USB port for my keyboard.  So, I had to switch USB ports, problem solved, right?  No.  It's like a giant puzzle now.  If I plug it back into a USB port I've used the keyboard on before, it won't work.  So I have to put the keyboard in a USB port I haven't plugged it into yet.  Well, I've ran out of USB ports to use.  I've tried other keyboards, even a brand-new one of the same model.  They all do the same thing, if a keyboard was in the USB port before, it won't work.  I'm on my last USB port, and I need some help.  It's obviously the computer and not the keyboard, I know this much.  I didn't mess with anything, it just started happening when I woke up one day and turned the computer on.  Could anyone possibly help before I have to resort to the computer company's customer support?

Got a PS/2 keyboard to try?
Other USB devices work?

Yes, everything else works just fine.  It's just the keyboards.  And, uh...  A PS/2 keyboard?

It's Windows. There is no logic behind it.
But you can try to remove the usb drivers and Windows will notice it and reinstall them with the WinXP install disc. I'm using linux so I don't know exactly were it is, but go to the device manager and somewhere there you can remove/reinstall them.

Hope that helps.

Great.  Dx  Well, with that answered.  Would anyone be able to explain why it might of happened in the first place?

And also...  If I remove the USB drivers.  I wouldn't be able to use my keyboard or mouse, right?  Seeing as both of them are connected through my computer with USB.

(I'm 6) Ugh Sorry, haven't thought about that issue. But then again, this is why PS/2 is for and unfortunately newer computer have none. Look if there is a green and/or purple like slot behind your computer. There you can plug a PS/2 mouse or keybord there, if you have any.

Sorry if I'm no help.

Yeah, I know about that.  I need converters though for the keyboard.  I was thinking about that.  But I need to change some setting for it to work.  But my mouse and my keyboard are strictly USB.  I do have a converter for the mouse, but not the keyboard.  I'll consider that.  Thanks for reminding me though, I totally forgot about it.
