CPU Opinions

Hey guys,

I'm going to the computer markets this Saturday. I've already got two 7800GT's and I'm intending to purchase an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard and a matched pair of 1GB sticks for 2GB of RAM.
This just leaves the CPU. I really want the 4400+ Toledo Core X2, with 1MB of Cache per CPU, but it's fucking pricy. I'm wondering how this performs? I'm a gamer, but I'm also heavily into video encoding and the like.
Any advice?

The cache hit has a negligible component to processing performance, when you weigh it against the price difference.  If you're savvy with overclocking, or willing to mess with it slightly, get the slowest X2.  It's 5 minutes of effort (with good ram) to get it running at 2.5ghz.  Otherwise, get the fastest X2 you can afford.  There hasn't really been any significant change in architecture since the X2 has been released.

Don't change these.
