Hey,

Ive been on 4chan for a while and I've read a lot of posts on technology that have inspired a lot of question, so I've decided to list them all here to see if anyone can help me, keep in mind though that a lot of these questions may seem basic but, i have to start somewhere.

Why do people use Linux/Unix?

What is UseNet?

How come whenever i try to download something rare on emule is stays on queue forever, but when i ask my friend to download it he gets it in an hour, what programs does he use (he insists on not telling me)?

Whats the best way to download files p2p?

Well, i think thats it, I've tried googling them, but i usually find myself in sites with a lot of spam, that already assume you know a lot.

Thanks

Why do people use Linux/Unix?
Because it's free, because it's developer friendly, and because it's not Microsoft's. But not all geeks use Linux. Some use Windows NT (usually 2000). IMHPO a properly tuned, well equipped Windows NT is a better workstation and desktop environment than Linux.

What is UseNet?
A bulletin board system older than the web.

You'll need to have open TCP and UDP ports to use eMule decently. Be sure to upload from that and other files as much as you can. I'm afraid there are some ways he could be cheating, but the gain from these cheats is small, and they do a lot of damage to the network, so please smack your friend and tell him he's a faggot.

This question is quite ambiguous, but I'll throw this in: For all P2Ps: upload as much as you can. For eMule: leave it working all night. It's better to stay online for 4 hours than to do 20 times 1 hour.

For the most part, trolls stay out of world4ch.

I also believe that Windows NT deserves love.

Another solution for p2p downloading is to use irc.
I don't have the page handy, but there's one out there that lets you search and get files really quickly.
Example: I had a DnB mix I was trying to Download.  Emule was decent, but then stopped at 13% (as it does on occasion).  Went to the irc tracker website, searched, clicked a link and bam, had the cd set in around an hour.

Thanks for all the answers, about IRC, i use it and everything (just mIRC) but i find its really hard to download popular files, and i always have to wait in line to get them.

I guess if theres an alternative to just going on IRC search engines and getting files from there, that would be cool.

Thanks again.

IRC is where you go if you want the really good stuff. You gotta rub shoulders a few months in IRC to get access to it though.

The other places are where you go if you don't mind waiting a while.

Don't change these.
