The File-Pile

First it was a little irritating. Now it's turned into a problem. This is about the combination of huge amounts of files and the need to keep 'em sorted. Just surfing on 4chan for a while turns into several pictures with numbertags. And right now, I'm storing more images than I could ever give unique names.

Now how do I solve this? Are there any good index-programs or the like you can reccomend? Or do I simply have to sort through it all and catalouge it?
