Ok, so I was talking to a friend, and she asked me how come she couldn't raise her resolution past 1280x1024. I didn't know so I'm here to ask you folkd. All I know is that she has a high end computer that she JUSt bought...dual video cards.
In fact, I'm having that same problem, just never cared. I know she has a better video card than mine, and I have a GeForce 6600 GT AGP 8x 128 DDR3. I never tried anything past 1280x1024, but I'd like to myself. So if anyone is willing to help, it'd be greatly appreciated. If you need more information, just ask.

Resolution depends on two things, monitor and video card, and is limited by the weaker of the two, which usually is the monitor. In other words, don't buy cheap shitty LCD screens.

What can your monitor handle?
All cards nowdays can handle at least 1600x1200, so the only reason you can't go higher is windows thinks that it's not supported by your monitor.

You can of course use tools like PowerStrip to force Windows into using higher resolutions but don't come crying if you fry you monitor.

Well, my monitor is an LCD screen, 17 inch by Megavision. it was 400 dollars at the time (a long time ago..). It's a pretty good monitor.
My friend has a 19 inch flat panel. She says there are choices to raise the resolution, but it wont change. Which is what I find weird.

Also, I'm looking through monitors like mine through newegg.com and they all say their max resolution is 1280x1024. But how come I know someone who has their resolution at 1600x1200 with a 16(somewhat) inch monitor? I don't think they know how to "force" it, either. Thanks for the input

There are a lot of 17 and 19" LCDs that just plain top out at 1280x1024. (I'm still not certain why someone would buy a 19" LCD that couldn't do at least 1600x1200. Any suggestions, /comp/?)

LCDs look best at their native resolution. If you buy a normal LCD, you're buying a 1280res LCD, unless you want your image to have stretchmarks and warping.
