BIOS problems

I've been trying to reformat my XP system for a while now but it refuses to boot from the CD. What's worse, I can't get into my bios to switch my boot preferences because my keyboard doesn't respond during the whole boot-up sequence. All I get are clicks from the tower speaker whenever I hit a key.

Is there some way to circumvent this problem?

Get a real keyboard. Real as in IBM Model M or similar.

Get a SPARCstation, its boot PROM is infinitely superior to your sucky BIOS.

is your keyboard usb? in that case you need to go to the bios settings and enable usb keyboard input-o wait.

you may have to borrow a ps/2 keyboard to get to the bios screen.

I use a Logitech cordless keyboard that's USB, but hooked up through a ps/2 adaptor. I've tried a using basic ps/2 keyboard but got the same problem.

Also, I can't afford a SPARCstation, dammit. I just want to reformat.

I know this problem is really simple to solve, as I've dealt with it once before. Unfortunately it's been so damn long I can't remember what I did to fix it. Help?

Reset the CMOS, perhaps? After doing so many BIOSes come up with a "CMOS checksum failure, press F1 to enter setup" or similar.

Model M doesn't make you cool. It just gives you a keyboard that works well.

Anyone who thinks a keyboard makes someone cool or not cool needs their head checked.
