How to overclocked CPU?

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-15 2:20

I need to overclock my CPU from 700 Mhz up to about 1.2 ghz. Is this possible, keeping in mind that I am capable of attaining a really good liquid cooling system?
If so, please tell me how, to my shame, I know little about hardware, besides what the benchmark numbers mean, and stuff like that.

I wanna play HL2 dammit!

Dude if you can obtain a "really good" liquid cooling system, then get a fucking new computer for that money not overclock some 700mhz junker. Your HL2 probably won't run well on it even if it's overclocked.

And btw it's not plausible to overclock a 700mh that much anyway, cuz you'll run into serious stability issues most likely.

It is most extremely unlikely that you will be able to approach almost double the clockspeed of your chip using a commercial cooling system.

Do it and tell us about it first.

How can he do it if he doesn't know how?

I got Half Life 2 to run on 750Hmz with a DX6 Card (KryoII 64MB), sure it was on the lowest setting and only Garry's Mod with that construct map because Half Life 2 took too long to start up (Too much info).
It got about around 25 to 30 fps.

I'm on a 2.4 Ghz with DX8/9(Fx5200 Ultra, It know it sucks) card now.

If you are going to play CS source and going by the halflife2 recommended setting.  Those lies.  You need at least 256MB video card and at least 3 Ghz p4 or athlon 64 3200 to run it well especially if you and your team is rushing.
You should just buy cheaper athlon 64 and overclock that or wait for a price drop on p4 because they have those dual cores that just came out so it will probably be cheap

Wow  another loser overclocker.  Spend the time you would overclocking getting a job and a new processor.  All you do is increase the chance of a heat related problem and get a few more mhz.

Just get a new cpu and mobo, etc.  It really isn't that much money to earn from a basic burger king job and you will benefit much more since you will have other awesome things like a larger cpu cache that reduces miss penalties, etc

Definately agree there, liquid cooling would be a waste on that machine, so go get a nice AMD 3*00+ and an nVidia 6600GT *(or higher) and you can probably run it nicely at 1024x768 with around 120 fps.

Is that true? Cuz I could bearly get HL2 to even start on 1200Mhz 540ram and 64mb GF2.

It's not worth it, get a job, and a new computer.

also, don't get a Dell... unless it's an XPS.

Don't change these.
