Another Laptop/Tablet Thread

I’m looking in buying a lightweight, portable laptop that I can take with me to class and around campus. I’ve been trying to stay around with something around $1500, around 4.5 lbs (or less), and not much larger than those with a 12” screen.

I’ve pretty much come down to two choices, either A) A 12” Powerbook which I can get through my school for about a hundred bucks cheaper. It would sort of nice to get to know OS X although I have no general affection for Macs or their OS.

or B) Some sort of Tablet. I would much prefer a tablet, although they’re bound to run me more $$

Of the tablets I’m looking at the one that seems to be the best is the HP Compaq tc4000, although that’s going to run me more towards $2,000.

What are your recommendations?

Don't get a tablet, from what I understand most of the software on them sucks. And the handwriting recognition. Get the 12" of teh eBay.

Well assume I’m gonna get your average laptop, still looking for a good battery life and maybe something 15” yet light. What would the recommendations be?

I’ve already done a lot of my own research. I’ve only come here looking for personal experience and personal recommendations. Not for you to look up shit for me.

as for the OP. unless you REALLY need the tablet functionality i wouldn't bother with a tablet. spend your money elsewhere
