DVD writer problems

I just bought a DVD writer a few days ago, Pretty shitty bargain one, just to get the job done. (Emprex if you must know, for £20).
It has been burning DVDs basically all day and resting at night for the past 3 days, and today when i try to burn it won't recognize DVD discs. Just CDs.

Is it fucked or just a temporary problem? I plan to leave it 48 hours and see if it "fixes itself".

Should I just take it back and get a better one?

you get what you pay for. What the fuck did you expect paying nothing for a brand nobody has even heard of?
