Well not really, tldr away

Suffice to say, if you don't want 10minutes of trouble using your stupid shetto winxp hacking skills, don't download wmf_exp.wmf.

You see, you don't even have to open it if for your computer to get the AIDS.
Just by selecting the file in any dialogue is enough to crash explorer.exe, and if you don't have some sort of firewall to check unauth connections for you, downloads something that I would assume to be a trojan or whatever.

this is why I don't even bother patching my system, since the update update lol people are getting hit with it as well, and skill with OS stuff through run or prompt > relying on MS updates and living in (more) ignorance

the file ended up being hex edit macro'd out of existance btw :)

and anyway, this is why I use the internet, to find out about cool and exciting new things every other day! disassembling blaster and lovebug and stuff and following links in IRC is part of the thrill of internet for a coder anyway

I'm pretty sure >>2 will be all like "INSTALL LUNIX LOL"

regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll

Will prevent the exploit from working, but also disables thumbnails and the image viewer.

This is the kind of shit you have to put up with for using Windows, INSTALL LINUX LOL

Another buffer overflow problem, I would guess. It's nothing new that Microsoft are slow in patching known vulnerabilities, but this one seems to surfaced only within the last couple of days.

Almost all problems that aren't due to a pathologically unsecure architecture *cough* are buffer overruns. Solution? Outlaw the use of C for high level applications.

Oh yes, because other languages don't access memory at all.

Don't change these.
