image resizing

does any one know of any programs to resize images?

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-27 16:23

I use Paint Shop Pro, but you might want a command line utility. Imagick or GD may do that, I'm not sure because I haven't used them, but they should.

imagemagick if you want commandline
gimp if you want an editor

LOL Gimp LOL

Ok, you can resize pictures with it. But don't try anything else.

Irfanview can do Lanczos, which makes it better than most other Windows programs.

Why not?

If you have to ask this, you've never used Gimp. There is nothing in its interface that could not be better. There is not one algorithm that is not the worst possible one that could be used.

Here is GIMP's usability: .

GIMP has been promising the world since the late 90s, yet eight years later it still sucks.

Actually, I use the GIMP almost exclusively for image creation/editing. It's certainly quirky, but far from unusable. Maybe I've just gotten used to it.

>>1 and >>5 - IrfanView FTW!  It also does batch editings and conversions on image collections.  Now if only Irfan could be conned into making a Linux or Mac OS port...

>>7 and >>8
If the GIMP's that bad, then CONTRIBUTE IMPROVEMENTS over THERE!  Otherwise, quit complaining about how something free sucks, stick with the overpriced editors you got, and keep saving up for that overpriced upgrade when you move from Windows X POS to Windows Chicken.

I don't know, I think it's irredeemable by now.

>>10 Irfan isn't a faggot so I don't think he'll be porting to the homosexual linux OS anytime soon.
God when will you virgin linux nerds learn that compiling your own kernel and hacking together pointless programs that do the same thing (ie. 99.999% of so called "linux" software) only makes you gay?

And Microsoft's toy OS isn't gay... why?  Last I checked, and my tech support job needs me to check daily, 99% of Windows users were taking it from Microsoft in the ass every day.

Also, I've put together several Linux systems without any compiling or hacking whatsoever, and the ordinary folks using them couldn't be happier.  Let me repeat that.  NO COMPILING OR HACKING AT ALL!

I've had to do more hacking on Windows -- daily! -- than I've ever had to do on Linux.  Thank you.  Move along...  Next!

Gqview is pretty nice, is pretty fast and has extensive search/dedupe tools. Only thing that comes close to Irfanview's functionality is gThumb but that seemed kind of heavy to have and isn't quite as responsive as Irfanview.

>>12
Most GNU/Linux users never have to compile their own software with software repositories and package management systems like APT or YaST, let alone the kernel.I suggest you actually play around with a flavor of Linux before you /b/abble.

Are you a graphician? Have you actually used GIMP for something serious? Part of my bread making consists of this, and while my predisposition towards GIMP as free software was very high, I found it so limited, counter-intuitive, and clumsy, I couldn't, despite how hard I tried, like it; that's besides the fact it lacks 40% of the features of any of the others.

>>9
I have some kind of weird admiration for the fact you've managed to use it regularly. I also suspect now that you're used to GIMP, if you tried Corel Paint Shop Pro X, you'd find it ridiculously easy - as if it almost did the job for you.

>>10
Cheer up GNAA/Linux user; I really wanted to be able to use GIMP so I could get rid of some more commercial software, but I really couldn't do my job with it. I don't have time to get involved (already looking for some time to join the ReactOS dev team), but it's also a matter of design: the interface would need to be completely reworked (and OMG, use a master window this time!), and key parts of it such as the layer system needs to be redone. They need to add a decent vector system (preferrably similar to PSP's), and many other things. Might as well start with a new one.

For an enterprise environment, of course. You'll indeed need more hacking on Windows. For your personal workstation, it's the other way - Windows is closer to what I want (and works much better at it), although I still tune and change many things until I get it how I like it.

Don't change these.
