On-board Sound vs. Hardware Sound

I have a SB Live! sound card, but lately it's acting up.  How much of a performance decrease would it be if I switched to my on-board audio?

why not switch to it and find out?

Depends on what onboard audio you have, if I switched from my like years old SB Live! Value to the onboard sound to test what the sound was like... well, it was like comparing a modern professional studio sound recorder to a tape deck from the 80s respectively. That's how bad the onboard sound was in comparison. My damn ISA Crystal Audio did a better job than that onboard controller, and the onboard one was like 10 years newer!

Just try switching the PCI bus which the SBLive is slotted in at first, and reinstalling sblive software. It might help. If all else fails, try the onboard. But I doubt it'll be anywhere comparable.. it don't even have surround mixer!

Average of 15% CPU usage from onboard or cards without their own DSP.
