Okay, I just got a new PCI video card and guess what, it doesn't work right. When I tried to view movies with it, the computer locked up. After some work, I found that I should uninstall the integrated gfx, which I did. It started  but then the intel gfx drivers I deleted tried to reload themselves, locking the system up again. This happened every time on startup, so I gave up, took everything out, reset all the BIOS and stuff, and let the intel drivers load. I'm not sure what keeps causing the problems so I ask you:

1. Why would the card not play video files at all?

2. Was uninstalling the intel gfx controllers the right thing to do?

3. If they need to be uninstalled, how do I keep them from reloading at startup?

disable the intel integrated card from the bios

Tried that, at least i think I did. I never saw an option to turn them off, just to switch the boot video addapter from on board to PCI. Is that right? I'm using a Compaq Presario if that helps anyone.

go into your hardware manager system/hardware/device manager/ and disable the onboard graphics card. power down the PC (might wanna set the power button to do that since when you disable the card you monitor dies.) go into your bios and set PCI as main card. move monitor to PCI card. boot computer and install drivers.

OK, thanks for the help. One other thing, the card says it takes a 300 watt PSU and all I have is a 250. Is it absolutly neccesary to put a new one in? Im trying not to waste too much on this PC.

If your computer start randomly shutting down or crashing or doing weird things (usually while gaming or doing other graphics intensive things), then yes, you need a new PSU. It depends on how much power the rest of your hardware uses, and you could just try if it works with your current PSU.

Well, while it was working the gpu was at around 37C and its threashold is about 145C. Im worried its just not geting any power, or is it common for gpus to opperate at a lower temp when first used? It did fine while I was browsing the net or viewing pictures, but when a movies started, everything locked up and my cpu load jumped from around 3% to 80-90% just being used by the media player.
