The 4chan plugin suddenly stopped working... out of the blue

what is this?!
I reinstalld it. nothing.
It worked for ages and now just gone. from one day to the other, w/o any changes to firefox or the system.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 12:04

Mine still works, so it's just you...

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 12:39

Mine stopped working today as well.  No quick reply.  No nothing.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 12:45

I just tested quick reply and it works for me.  I don't use the inline version of it though since it caused me problems.  Probably a factor of extension conficts and server issues.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 15:09

it's zip, bin, img, dat that are the servers that house the boards the failing boards /a/, /b/, /c/, /g/, /k/, /m/, /o/, /p/, /r/, /s/, /t/, /v/, /w/, /cm/, and /an/ that are at fault

still works on /d/, /e/, /gif/, /h/, /hr/, /u/, /wg/, /i/, /ic/, /y/, /cgl/, /ck/, /co/, /mu/, /n/, /po/, /sp/, and /tv/

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2006-07-17 15:55

the urls changed for zip and img (to bin and dat respecivly), thusly the urls needed updateing in the board xml, which is done. Restart firefox to get the new urls to make it work.

I may need to release a fixed version, some features may be broken. (quick reply etc.).

>>273
noted, I dont see why not.

>>277
do you have IETab installed? this extension has know issues with it.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 16:23

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 21:06

Can someone post the extension to a different site since the wrathfilledhate one seems to be down?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 21:36

Argh! Mine's still missing! ...EVERYTHING!!!1!

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-17 22:14

Same

>>296-298
Are you using the latest version? 0.4.3.1? It should use the cached version eventually (might take a minuet or something). I'll implement a propper timeout later.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-18 9:16

Ok, it was having a hard time finding the update but now I got it, thanks! =D

Anyone else having a problem with Quick Reply?  Nothing is being uploaded with Quick Reply, but normal reply is fine.  This is since Damage Incs last update.

Uninstall/reinstall didn't work.  Normal Quick Reply & inline exhibit the same problem.

The inline quick reply should work if the normal reply works, since it just makes a copy of the post form and puts it in a window. I've tested it in /b/ and it worked.

I will need to release a new version to fix some things :(

What do you think about adding something about statistics to the 4chan plugin? Like number of threads started and number of posts made. It would be interesting to know, but it might detract from the overall purpose of 4chan.

What do you think?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-19 11:25

For thread watcher could you add and option to auto delete threads that don't exist anymore?  Thanks.

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2006-07-19 14:45

>>304
hm. probably not, because I doubt I'll feel like implementing things that have no real use. and 4chan is supposed to do away with such epenisry as stats and such.

>>305
I'm planning to improve the thread watcher, that should be one of the things I implement.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-20 19:10

The threadwatcher link to the big main list doesn't work for me anymore with 0.4.3.1. I'm running firefox 1.5.0.4, other extensions are adblock, dta, and gamefox.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-20 21:41

It's been mentioned a few times but, when using inline quick reply inside a thread the page loads but I have to refresh it myself to see my reply.

Also, could you add something to disable it on particular threads? It doesn't like massive threads (which has also been mentioned). Firefox hangs and pops up with continuous 'this script is not loading' messages. And when it does, it lags more than UT on dialup.

I also find I have to disable the plugin when people spam for the gets.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-21 14:41

how about adding a "new" column to the thread watcher so that you know when there is a new post to your watched thread.

also when i click on the "TW" link to get the full view it does not do anything

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2006-07-22 4:45

>>307,309
Hm yes, the TW link does seem to be broken. I'll look into it, thanks.

>>308
I'm working on speeding things up at the moment. I'm adding a "post threshold" for threads, where if its loading a large thread it won't add buttons etc, which should speed things up a lot. The buttons will then be added when you hover the mouse over a reply for X <unit time>s.

>>308
I don't want to do things that would cause extra (un-needed) load on the servers. Thats why I haven't added something to tell you when there are new replies to a thread.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-23 0:38

for some reason my 4chan extension is not working. when i right click the 4chan tabis there but has nothing in side it. also the quick reply, TW and expand feature do not work. its like internet explorer all over again to make things short

Any particular reason all the board are gone from the pref panels, I have a "4chan" menu I can't get rid of, and before that, I got a HTTP 200 code error every time I tried to delete a post (janitor here)?  Looks like it is because your site is down?

Seriously, it's irritating that every time your server goes down, the plugin stops working.  PLEASE build everything INTO THE PLUGIN and release a new version.  Your server isn't even remotely reliable enough to depend on. I don't care if I occasionally need to download an updated version (that's what firefox update checking is for).

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2006-07-23 5:04

>>311
If you are using the latest version (0.4.2.1) then, if the site is down, the last version of the board data will be used (but it might take a minuet or two after the browser starts).

If the quick reply etc. buttons are there, then their probably not working because you have ietab installed? I'm yet to find out why ietab breaks the extension.

>>312
The latest version (0.4.2.1, or maybe 0.4.2.0 for the janitor version I forget) has caching thought it might take a minute for the local file to be loaded, I'll make this a shorter in the next version. Though if you have boards showing in the menu then the problem is something else.

All of the "4chan" menus can be disabled through the config.

the error you are getting is because 4chans sub-donains have changed, and this requires alot of changes to the extension, and I report features to add to the admin/janitor version of the extension, which takes time, I can build you a version of the latest beta if you like, which most of the problems are now fixed (talk to me on irc).

And no, I'm not going back to the "board data is build into the extension" ways, because its such a hassle to have to release a new version every time something changes (which is usually quite often). It doesn't make any sense to do it that way.

I'll remind you that the extension does NOTHING that you can't do without it, it just aims to make it a bit quicker/easier. And no one is forcing you to use it (if moot is then he shouldn't be!).

Does anyone else have a copy of 0.4.3.1 on a website that isn't down right now? =/

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-23 17:39

>>313

I have 0.4.1.3, and the self-update has never worked, hence why I'm running an old version.  I do in fact have an --empty-- 4chan menu I can't get rid of in my menubar (the "menu" is completely disabled in the preferences.)

Why does the extension require so many changes when the boards switch hosts?  They don't change that often, or at least they shouldn't.  And why are the boards switching hosts, anyway?  CNAMEs anyone?

>>314

I've got 0.4.1.3, and it's useless at the moment.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-23 18:01

>>315

I have 0.4.2.0 right now, and it does absolutely nothing =( Just wanted to see if I could get any fucntionality whatsoever out of it.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-23 18:21

People, people.  Before you complain update to the latest version.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-23 18:52

I'd love to, if someone could link me to a copy that's onlien right now :D

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-24 1:00

>>318
Signed.

Downloaded the updated version from mainpage>tools, and now it doesn't work- period. LayoutDocument has no properties area which I assume is why the menu is unpopulated. I thought it would be because I had to uninstall the previous version rather than update, and the website was down. But none of the other features work either.

>>313
You have an option to disable/enable specific boards. Couldn't you expand that to modify/add custom menu items?

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-24 1:56

So... anyone want to rapidshare their newest copy of the extension, or something?
