4chan Firefox Extension

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2005-12-20 22:12

Post suggestions for new features/improvements, report bugs and ask for help regarding the 4chan firefox extension in here.

See /g/ for the new beta.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-20 22:42

dunno if this was addressed, but let's say i was on /a/ or any other board and use the 4chan menu on the top and click on the same board again, it would not reload the page

It should refresh the page, well it is doing for me. I'll look into it though.

Wouldn't it be better to do this in /g/? Anyways, I request a quickreply function exactly like the one in 4chan for world4ch. I dislike having to wait for the page to refresh after I reply to something. With Quick Reply I just hit reply and minimize.

The one in /g/ won't last all that long, I'll be de-stickying it a day or two after the next version is released. I'll probably link to this thread in the extension somewhere, so that ideas can easily be passed on to me.
I didn't bother adding quick reply here, since it already kind of has it, but I guess I could implement it.

>>5
I would have posted this in /sug/ if it wern't such a shithole. Here is where requests relating to the extension belong (or the temp /g/ thread).

when i click to go to a board, could you make it so it goes straight to the board without frames?

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2005-12-21 19:02

Yes, you can configure that in the config window which is accessible though the extensions window.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-22 3:20

how i watched thread?

Click on the 4chan icon next to thread title

Thread expander suddenly stopped working. I have no idea of why, I've tried restarting firefox.

Using beta 2 of the extension and Firefox 1.5 on Windows XP.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-22 23:37

It looks spiffy, but how do you get to the config menu?

>>12
I've been trying to figure out why this is so, but haven't managed too yet :(

>>13
Tools > Extensions > double-click the 4chan extension

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-24 8:25

looks really good, it has some nice things, but are you planing to include others imageboards... I am talking about not4chan...

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2005-12-24 16:34

>>15
not4chan is included? I don't plan to add any other imagboard sites, I plan to keep it just a 4chan (and it's other projects) extension. I may add the option to add your own link to the menu, but I haven't decided yet.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-24 18:05

sotty, my bad, I was looking for the word not4chan, I didnt saw the /l/, /tl/, /rl/ and /sm/, the I thinks it is perfect!!! great job!!

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-24 19:45

Wonderful extension. I don't really need/want the 4chan menu in my Firefox bar, though (love the quick reply and new thread expansion features), can I get an option to turn off the menu altogether?

There is in the latest beta (see: http://zip.4channel.org/g/res/48478.html#49173)

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-24 20:17

Oh, ok, thanks!

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-25 13:59

wel, after using it a bit, I finally found how to use the thread wathcer... exlent idea, really, but I found what to me is a problem... it only shows you the threas you marjer in the board you are in... meaning that is a mark a thread in /l/ and then go to /rl/ then I wont see the thread I marked, is there a way to make then visible at all times... maybe an option for the one that want it... well tell me what you think..

Click the TW link at the top right of the page, that has links to all watched threads from all boards.
I may add more thread options for watched threads in the future, so that threads could always appear on the inline thread watcher view.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-25 15:39

yes, I knew about the TW link, what I meant was to put it in the inline thread wathcer (wich I bealive is the one in the left Top of the board pages...) but with the TW it is not as importat, keep it up!!

If its not implemented and Im dumb or blind, ability to hide menu next to tools, I prefer rightclick.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-26 7:53

>>24
Menu tab -> uncheck 'Show in menu bar'

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-27 3:21

id like to see an option for those of us who have new tabs open on top. even when firefox is set to open new tabs on top, the 4chan toolbar opens them in the background

I'll see what I can do.

Also version 0.4.1.0 of the extension is released, get it here:
http://www.4chan.org/tools.php

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-27 20:27

The "Thread title" doesnt show in the watching threads.

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2005-12-30 8:34

>>29
How do you mean? It adds the thread's title (if there is one), that seems to work, and it shows it in the other view, so I don't know what the problem is. could you elaborate?

One thing you can change is where the thread watch bar goes. It always pushes the comment box into that new jlist advert. Just makeing it smaller would do. I like tor extention thoe, its nice and makes wasteing time on 4chan that much easyer.

Where would it go though? I could add an option to have it in different places, but where? bottom?, top?, ???. I may try and make it smaller, or make it more configurable, perhaps.

4chan plugin kills flashget extension, fyi

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-02 17:09

I have an idea for another feature.

Clicking the topic name of a discussion would send you, for example, to this place:
http://www.world4ch.org/read/sci/1135215980/1-40
now, I don't like that. What I want is to be sent to this place instead:
http://www.world4ch.org/read/sci/1135215980/
thus viewing all posts in that topic, not just posts 1 to 40. This would obviously be optional.

The extension started causing firefox to not accept keyboard or mouse input every other time I started a new instance. If I disable it, it reenables itself. So I tried uninstalling it and now it's in that fucking extension limbo where it's still there yet you can't do shit to it.

Name: DamageInc !euFrYW8TXE 2006-01-05 11:32

>>31
I'll see if I can work out why.

>>32
Sounds good, I plan to implement some features for w4ch, perhaps for the next version.

>>33
I can't think why that would be, It's never happend to me. But uninstalling the extension should work...

Name: AlexMoron !JUmCz2K4z6 2006-01-07 23:08

I found a bug after using this great program for a day.

It seems that this extension screws up my tooltips and titles. Whenever I hover over an image, the title (tooltip) appears not under my cursor but really high up. Here is an image for example (note the missing cursor which is supposed to be over the Quick Reply button):

http://www.retrogravity.com/alex/untitled.GIF

Another thing it does regarding tooltips, is in the browser itself, the tooltips sometimes will flash and then dissappear making it impossible to read them.

I've narrowed it down to this extension after disabling it and noticing the problems being gone.

If you can fix this, thanks! This program is already awesome and with these minor bugs fixed, would be perfect!

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-07 23:33

This is >33.
It turns out there was an extension conflict. One of them was messing with the 4chan one and another one was causing the uninstall problem.

Name: anonymous 2006-01-07 23:46

I dunno if you'd like to incorporate the not4chan downloader into your extension, but it seems like they'd compliment each other pretty well.

>>35
The tooltips are just the "title" attribute in html tags, I don't create them manually. So it could be a firefox bug. It's never happened to me, but I'll look into it.

>>36
:)

>>37
I have to be careful not to implement any features that could be used for leeching, since its an "official" extension. So, probably not, but I'll take a look.

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-09 15:57

Just found something that could be really useful.
When you expand a post, it would be nice to have the image title as in the normal reply page.
If possible, you could even always fetch image title (even in normal view) but it's not that important.
This extension rocks.

I get weird errors sometimes loading pages, I didn't think to screencap them til now. It's usually two back to back.

I've gotten some similar to the first one before but never the second one.
