So I reinstalled XP (Home) yesterday and now my sound sounds all crappy AND while playing mp3s my CPU usage is @ almost 50% regardles of player (WMP is actually @ almost 100%). I have reinstalled all latest drivers and stuff, same as I had before.

Yeah right, every fucking distro fails to initialize my PCI ports (= no internets lol), I mean how fucking hard can that be? My old W95 can do that!

Strange; but anyways, use FFDSHOW and your choice of video players (Media Player Classic or VideoLAN) and audio players (Winamp or Fubar2000). Don't use Windows Media Player, it's bullshit.
did you do all the windows updates? and try getting some diffrent drivers if you can. i had an asus a7n8x-deluxe and the onboard 5.1 crapped out itself.
