.MKV Player w/ Subtitle Support

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-09 19:46

I'm searching for a decent MKV player that will work well with several different subtitle fonts in the same episode. Anyone have a suggestion as to what would be a good player for this?

Any DirectShow-based Windows player will handle this. So, BSPlayer/Zoomplayer/MPC + Defilerpak.

Even windows media player can do it actually, both the old 6,4 and the new(er) 10,0. You just need the appropriate filters or codecs to play the video and something like DirectVobSub to display subtitles. It's like 2 said.

VLC?

mplayer

BSplayer is good if you use Windows - it's what I used before I got matroska working properly in mplayer.

And as far as OS X is concerned, only VLC manages to display some MKV animu. We really need to catch up with windows and lunix in terms of video support.

I do MKV fansubs on OS X and I test everything in MPlayer.

You mean that MKV is supposed to work with MPlayer on OS X? Using mplayerosx?

Well it works on lunix so I can't see why not.

Because the interface only talks about subtitles separated from the video file, doesn't let you display the subtitles, and doesn't let you choose which audio to listen to. I don't feel like having to read a manpage just to watch a video, I leave that kind of insanity to Lunix.

Put '-slang en' in the preferences in MPlayerOSX.

gmplayer?

Isn't that a GTK mplayer GUI? Google isn't helpful, that's what I guess from the name.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-10 17:18

I don't think it's GTK. Here's what it looks like:

You can skin it and stuff of course, but I never use it. Command line's good enough for me.

I just use mediaplayerclassic+FFDshow.

gmplayer is a GTK1 GUI for mplayer.

No way I'd use a media software with skins or that require the command line. I leave that stupidity respectively to Windows and Lunix. Looks like it probably would have to run in X11 too, just not worth the pain.

The mac fags are getting faggier.

MediaPlayerClassic + CCCP (which includes ffdshow and other goodies)

MplayerOSX has a Cocoa/Aqua native GUI...

but still VLC is better to use on Mac OSX :)

CCCP is just Defilerpak except made by moronic rippers :(

>>20
VLC doesn't work at all on slower CPUs, actually, and the font rendering is much uglier. It seems to be random whether or not a specific Mac will run VLC or MPlayer better.

I agree. Everybody should find it evident that you can watch a video by simply starting X11, launching a terminal, and typing something like (but with a real program, don't remember how to do it right now)

$ lunixvideo -s -i -l -f -c 1 -r 2 /Volumes/External\ Hd/Movies/Magikaru\ Animu\ Show/[GR8SUBS]Magikaru_animu_show_-_08[3A2C59F8].mkv &

(It would be self-evident that the button with the penguin works as a stop button, and that the button with a photo as RMS is the volume slider as long as you RTFM)

Yet Mac users insist to double click on their videos using the their one-buttonmouse. It's ridiculous.
Oh yeah I'd recommand them to read this:

Then install Debian on their macs.
