Torrent problem

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-07 23:05

Fucking god dammit, for torrents that have a lot of files I always get the "[Errno 24] (Too many open files)" problem. This is what google has told me, I've looked ALL over:

"To solve this problem, either increase the OS limit (ulimit, /proc/sys/fs/file-max), or use an implemention that limits the number of files it has open at any one time."

What the fuck does that mean?

Are you using bash?

If you are, do 'ulimit -a'. You'll see:
open files                    (-n) 256

Do 'ulimit -n <some large number>' to increase it.

Then you are also using a crap and/or outdated Bittorrent client. This problem was fixed ages ago in most clients. Get the latest version of your current client, or switch to a different one.

uTorrent or BitComet. uTorrent might be prefered as BitComet has been banned at some places (due to a spyware program with the same name floating around).

Don't change these.
