While Ghost is a method of backing up a hard drive to another device (second hard drive, writable CD/DVD, etc), it is almost nothing like XP's System Restore. System Restore records changes to files, registry settings, etc. (including keeping backups of system files modified or removed) and can revert those changes at a later date without losing documents, emails, etc. created or modified in the interim. A Ghost image is just an image of a hard drive's contents in their entirety. Its primary use is to create "factory" restore images for computers, and for people building/installing multiple systems with the same hardware configuration (ie. you set up one computer how you need it, reseal it with SysPrep, then duplicate the hard drive image onto the other computers). While it can also be used for regular backup purposes, it's not expressly intended for that (but then neither is System Restore).
