New cpu, more ram, or wait?

My pc is still decent, but I am starting to feel its downgrade as games like FEAR have to be tweaked very hard for a good frame rate.

I am currently using

6800GT

amd 64 @ 3000

and 512x2 of pc3200

Would it be better to upgrade to a 3700 processor (socket 745) or get a 1gig stick?

you might want to experiment with pc4200 ram and overclocking the front-side bus. Read up on it a lot. It can dramatically increase performance.

Make sure you're getting some good ram, check the ram timings and read up on ram timing. The idea is to use this ram in your next system. Don't purchase new ram at this stage unless you can use it in your next box.
