laptop screen

i took apart a laptop today and i want to hook the screen up to my computer as my secondary display but i dont know which connector to use, the one sticking out of it is a female white port

Welcome to propritary hell - unless you know what's assigned to each pin on the plug and can make up an adapter you're screwed.  Oh yeah and there's power to the display to think of too....
