What are Xeons better at than Opterons

Hello guys,

I'm preparing an oral presentation for my technical communications module, and I was thinking of presenting the pros and cons of the Intel Xeon vs the AMD Opteron.

Now I found a lot of info saying that the Opteron is better than the Xeon, but nothing on what the Xeon is better at. Surely Hyperthreading is good for something? Surely the Opteron has a weakness? Without this info I cannot present a fair comparison between the two processors.

Anyone knows what the Xeon is better at besides bring warm cheer to freezing server rooms?

Its oldschool, I got a server with dual 400 mhz Xeons.
Woot.

Cheaper is my guess? Maybe? No fucking clue. Google. :D

Sometimes being fair is saying things like it is. Xeon blows compared to Opteron? Oh well.

As far as I can see, Xeon is cheaper for some processors. But it's not that big an incentive to use Xeon.

Yes, I agree that I have to say the truth and say that Opterons spank Xeons, but people are going to ask, if Opterons are so good, why are people still buying Xeons? I cannot think of an answer to that.

why are people still buying Xeons?

It might be overall system cost. The CPU is just part of a larger system.

There's also the politics of the market. People have been ridiculing Dell for sticking with Intel to the bitter end, but Dell is getting some killer rebates as a result.

Marketing. And pushing hardware vendors to use them instead of AMD's. That's what they're better at. Opterons are better at technology, performance, and price.

Don't change these.
