Is there any way to make the recent version of Zone Alarm to act ONLY as a firewall? I'm sick of it trying to police my system: "rundll is trying to run blah blah blah do you want to allow it?" "explorer.exe may be trying to bypass security by running thisotherprogram.exe" "fuck you im in control of everything else your kernel tries to do, too"
If i use a previous version of ZoneAlarm, how insecure would I be?

If you don't need outbound protection, just hide behind a router.

you're talking about 6, right?
go to the Advanced button under the Firewall tab. You can turn off OS Firewall protection around there. I forgot, since I uninstalled it. The option is there, though. I set it for my family's computer because it asked for permission every time they started Firefox.

why the hell do you want a firewall if youve already got a router

Noone is saying I have a router. Plus, firewalls = outbound security. routers = inbound security. Just cause nothing can come in doesn't mean nothing can go out, hence the firewall.

The upgrade is pretty much just the look of It I -think- you should be able to just install the old one and use the same antivirus libraries and soforth without updating.

firewalls = outbound security
Are you talking about dedicated firewalls or something like ZoneAlarm? Because if you're talking about ZoneAlarm, you're so clueless it hurts.

Theres always an option to tell it to remember your decison, so after a few days of use it wont bother you much. And what the ehck r u talking about ZoneAlarm firewall is good for outbound security. Kill any programs from accessing the web without your notice.
