I have no idea what makes a good router so I need help.
We're getting a 24 Mbit/1 Mbit connection and we need a router that can support 4 computers(Most these days do, right?), isn't wireless and doesn't suck.
Last time we bought a random router it was horrible so I'm asking the *cough* professionals this time.

Linksys and NETGEAR are popular network options. You could get a Cisco if you wanted, too.
10 bucks after rebate. a wired router is a wired router (not true with wireless). If you don't need advanced customization and features, don't spend the money for them.
but really, any router will do. they all have 4 ports, they all supposedly work. Just make sure to update the firmware when you get it.

Get a Wi-Fi Netgear router. Work 99% of the time. Won't drop you even when you have 20 billion torrents going at the same time.

Have to say I've been using DLink wireless routers for 4+ years and have no complaints. Just don't get anything Belkin spew out of their sorry hatch.

I'd recommend ZyXel's line of routers. Most of those have worked quite nicely for me.
Though i use a dedicated box running iptables for the job currently. But the ZyXel's were the most reliable HW Routers i've used for home-use. NetGEAR's line of products sometimes did'nt cope well with many concurrent connections for some strange reason.
my netgear completely resetted itself the other day. i had trouble logging in to see what was wrong with the connection, because the SSID was back to default as was the passwerde. totally pissed me off.
